We are now down to the final four in the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
The final four teams breakdown as follows:
Brazil (#3) vs. Germany (#2)
Netherlands (#15) vs. Argentina (#5)
The final four include a rematch of the 2002 Finals with host country Brazil facing off against Germany. In World Cup history, these two teams have met up 21 times with Brazil winning 12 times, and Germany four times, with five draws.
Germany was the runner-up in 2002, and placed third in the last two World Cups and are looking to win their first World Cup since 1990. Brazil has won a record five World Cup titles, but have been knocked out in the quarter-finals of the last two World Cups.
Argentina faces The Netherlands in the other semi-final. The Netherlands finished as the runner-up in the last World Cup and are looking for two straight appearances in the finals. Argentina has not made it past the quarter-finals since their second place finish in 1990 and have not won the World Cup since 1990. The Netherlands have finished in second place on three different occasions but have never won the World Cup.
In head-to-head matches at the World Cup, The Netherlands have beaten Argentina four times, with three draws. Argentina has only beat The Netherlands once.
All in all, I expect an all European Final with Germany and The Netherlands advancing to the Finals. I went 3-1 in my predictions for the quarter-finals and I am 9-3 overall in my predictions. Let’s see what happens.
